Content

The death of a spouse, experienced by nearly one in three older adults, is consistently considered the most stressful life event. Researchers at the University of Utah developed a theory-driven model, the Dual Process Model (DPM) Intervention, for widowed older adults. With the support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, four pilot groups of the Chinese DPM intervention were carried out in Hong Kong. Dr. Amy Chow’s previous presentation was well received by participants. In this workshop, the theoretical framework of DPM, activities and preliminary findings of effectiveness will be briefly shared. Extra new pieces of information related to reactions of widowed older adults, intervention skills and outcomes of the intervention will be given out as well. Participants can learn the key intervention techniques of DPM in this session.
