Contents:
The course teaches simple guidelines on how to write effective correspondence in the English language. It is particularly suited to non-native speakers who find it difficult to create messages, without copying previous examples. The course focuses on the use of accurate Plain English where ‘making yourself understood’ is more important than impressing your reader with unfamiliar words and complex grammar. The course covers:

  3. Opening and Closing Paragraphs
  4. Tone and the Passive Voice
  5. Familiar Words and Grammar
  6. Good and Bad Habits
  7. The Need to Edit Your Writing

  4. Memos and E-mails
  5. Applications and Reference Letters

Trainer

Mr Frank Murdoch

Mr Frank Murdoch has a rich background in management and as a professional writer, and lived in five countries before coming to Hong Kong in 1972. Since the 1990s he has delivered training programmes in workplace English for The British Council, Hong Kong Government, Hong Kong University SPACE and many leading business enterprises. His specific emphasis is on how working people can use their own knowledge of people to people communication to craft active and effective written correspondence. He is the author of the textbook, Business English Made Easy.
