This one day comprehensive seminar is designed to inspire social workers in elderly dementia care service practice, education, training and leadership to utilize evidence based practice. This seminar also aims to enable social workers to review the research process, enhance literature review and critiquing skills.

Objectives

Prof Timothy Kwok 郭志銳教授
Professor in Department of Medicine and Therapeutics and School of Public Health
The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Director of Jockey Club Centre of Positive Ageing

Prof. Timothy Kwok graduated from University of Leicester in the UK and received specialist training in Geriatric and Internal Medicine in St George’s Hospital in London. Since 2004, he has been director of a comprehensive community care centre funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the demented people. His research interests include dementia, osteoporosis, nutrition, and health services. He is co-editor of the Asian Journal of Gerontology and Geriatrics and council member of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society.

Dr Daniel Young PhD RSW 楊劍雲博士
Service Manager, Jockey Club Centre for Positive Aging

Dr. Young K.W., PhD, RSW, has finished PhD in social work at Bristol University, U.K. and is currently employed as a Service Manager of Jockey Club Centre for Positive Aging. He is also an Honorable Research Fellow of Centre of Behavioural Health of The University of Hong Kong.

Patsy Chau has finished PhD in Statistics from The University of Hong Kong.  Her research interests include applying statistics in the fields of epidemiology, medicine and demography.   She is currently involved in designing, planning and implementing statistical surveys as well as performing statistical analyses.

Ms April Yip 葉韞紅女士
Research Officer, Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing

Ms Yip graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a BCogSc as well as an MPhil in Psychology. She is currently the Research Officer at Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing, and is responsible for overseeing and conducting research related to dementia.

Ms Grace Chan 陳文宜女士
Chief Officer (Elderly Service), The Hong Kong Council of Social Service

Ms Chan’s education background includes Health Science, Faculty of Health and Behavioral Sciences in Australia, and Master of Social Work (M.S.W) in the University of Hong Kong. More than 10 years, she has been closely involved in developing and setting up different elderly service project/ units. Her area of interests includes disability studies, elderly service related research and service development. She has received one of the Outstanding Young Social Worker Award in 2000. Ms Chan sits on a number of networks, committees and appeal boards in the statutory bodies under Administration Wing, Security Bureau, Home Affairs Bureau, Environment Protection Department and other public service bodies. She is also currently a member in Hospital Authority Kowloon West Cluster-Clinical Research Ethic Committee.
