Making Small NGOs Good and Effective

Objectives | Contents | Details | Honorary Advisers and Speakers

Objectives

Small is beautiful.? In the context of the Third Sector, small NGOs are flexible, reactive, meeting specific social needs with innovative and specialized services. Their vibrant development is one of the driving forces in social development. ?Despite of their relatively smaller operation scale, small NGOs face the same challenge as with more established NGOs, that is, the increasing public demand to demonstrate how well their organizations are governed, and how effective they allocate their resources.

This course aims to empower small-sized NGOs to face the challenge for greater accountability and win support from donors.? Participants will gain an inside look at what corporations expect from small NGOs, and how to nurture the building of a dynamic and long-term partnership. Moreover, practical tips will be provided for CEOs in small NGOs to work with its governing board, develop effective control mechanism, and overall monitoring and evaluation. There will also be a walk-through exercise on Charity Standards, through which participants will be introduced to international standards (the US BBB Wise Giving Alliance, the UK GuideStar, the Association of Fundraising Professionals) and Hong Kong’s WiseGiving charity standards. Participants will leave with a clear direction on how to become better stewards of resources.
