The Executive Committee of Heep Hong Society has received the privileged Directors of The Year Award 2006 from The Hong Kong Institute of Directors, under the category of Non-profit-distributing Organizations Boards.? The Committee consists of many devoted members who are leaders in their respective professional fields dedicated to the provision of quality service for children with special needs. This is surely representing outstanding NGO stewardship in our sector.

During the Award presentation, the Hong Kong Institute of Directors had made great commendation to the Executive Committee of Heep Hong Society. According to the Institute, it “adheres strictly to the guidelines set out in its Corporate Governance Manual.? Under its leadership, the Society has adopted innovative methods for enhancing developments both within the Society and extending service to meet the changing needs of the community.? Committed to best practices of corporate governance, the Society has been operating with high degree of transparency and integrity and is commended as a model for many other non-profit-distributing organizations.”

We are honored to have consent from Professor Daniel Shek, former Chairman of Heep Hong Society for the Year 2004-06, and Ms. Nancy Tsang, Director of Heep Hong Society to share their experience in NGO stewardship.? In particular, they will share how the Executive Committee provides guidance, insights and supports for and works in harmony with the management in making great strides in Heep Hong’s services in times of challenges and uncertainties.? Board members and agency heads of HKCSS’ Agency Members are cordially invited to the Luncheon.

Prof. Daniel Shek, BBS, JP 石丹理教授
Former Chairperson of Heep Hong Society for the Year 2004-06
Daniel Shek is the Professor of the Department of Social Work, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.? He is the Advisor of Heep Hong Society and had served its Executive Committee for 17 years.? Prof. Shek is active in community affairs and has been invited by the Hong Kong SAR Government to serve on several advisory committees including the Action Committee Against Narcotics, Commission on Youth, Fight Crime Committee Independent Police Complaints Council, Women’s Commission, and Citizen Advisory Committee on Community Relations, ICAC. ?He is also the Chairman of Society of Boys’ Centres, member of the Board of Trustees of New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Honorary Professor of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau. He is a fellow of Hong Kong Psychological Society.

Ms. Nancy Tsang, JP曾蘭斯太平紳士
Director of Heep Hong Society
Nancy Tsang is the Director of Heep Hong Society, which is one of the leading NGOs in Hong Kong providing early intervention and support services for children with special needs and their families..? Ms. Tsang graduated from the University of Southwestern Medical Center at Texas, U.S.A., major in Rehabilitation Science.? She has extensive experience in serving on various committees and working groups of the Social Welfare Department as well as the Hong Kong Council of Social Services.? She is currently a member of the Tseung Kwan O Hospital Governing Board, and actively participates in the Education Bureau’s Task Groups on Integrated Education and Special Education.
