Introduction

To provide participants with an overview of the financial accounting principles and applications, and to demonstrate an overall picture on how to read and obtain valuable data from an NGO’s financial report. Meanwhile, participants are able to grasp some contemporary management accounting practices for their daily operations.

  • Regulatory framework of financial reporting and basic financial accounting principles and applications
  • Reading, understanding and analyzing financial statements
  • Budget: a powerful tool for planning and control in NGO environment
  • Uses and applications of break-even analysis

Remark: Pre-course preparations on reading financial statements and case studies on budgeting and breakeven are required.

Mr Steve Lam, BSc(Econ)(Hons), MBA, FCPA, FCMA, CPA(Aust) 林志輝先生

Mr Steve Lam is responsible for the Agency’s finance, accounting, general administration and information technology issues. He has fruitful experiences in dealing with practical financial issues from the perspective of social service organisations. With his experiences in the financial profession over 25 years and the social welfare environment, he is able to provide insights to the NGO staff of the welfare sector in topics relating to financial management. Prior to joining HKSPC, he was Finance Manager of a NGO and has already had well experience in financial and management accounting, financial management and taxation in commercial sector. He currently is a Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Management Accountant and Certified Practising Accountant (Australia).
