Background of Senior Citizen's Day
To promote respect for our senior citizens and their significant contributions to society, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service started to celebrate the Senior Citizen’s Day since 1979. The Government has formally recognized and announced in 1993 that the 3rd Sunday in November each year is the “Senior Citizen’s Day”
For the past 30 years, HKCSS has taken the steering role to engage various stakeholders to take part in the Senior Citizen’s Day including HKSAR Government, NGOs, professional bodies, schools, public and private organizations. In 2008, more than 300 parties took part in the Senior Citizen’s Day.
