Objectives

To equip social workers and counselors with specialty training in the application of a wide range of crisis intervention services and the group intervention known as Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) in managing crisis situation facing in Hong Kong.



Contents

The course prepares participants on a wide range of crisis intervention services including pre and post incident crisis education, significant other support services, on-scene support services, crisis intervention for individuals, demobilizations after large scale traumatic incidents, small group defusings and the group intervention known as Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).  The contents include:

    • General, cumulative, critical incident stress and PTSD,
    • High risk populations: emergency services, military, other,
    • ‘Critical Incidents’ - death, injury, threat, terror, etc.,
    • Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) fundamentals,
    • Core intervention tactics,
    • Demobilization,
    • Defusing of small groups,
    • Defusing Demonstration,
    • Essentials of group intervention, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD),
    • Assessing the need for CISD; and
    • Factors which enhance CISD success.

    Ms Gloria W. Y. Wan 溫穎瑤女士 BSocSc (HKU)
    MSocSc in Clin.Psy.(CUHK)

    Ms Wan is the Clinical Psychologist of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council. She is the accredited trainer of the courses "Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM): Group Crisis Intervention" and "Assisting Individual in Crisis" by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF). She is experienced in providing pre-crisis consultancy services both locally and in Macau. During crisis, she also assisted in the strategic planning and providing direct intervention services for school and community settings.
