Objectives

Crisis prevention is doubly important for public entities, companies, and non-profit organizations.  Small organizations often have fewer resources to draw on when a crisis erupts, and business investment, insurance and other risk financing tools may not be an available due to the organization's meager financial resources.  But every organization, from the smallest to the largest can and should take positive steps to prevent the preventable and prepare for the unavoidable.  The key is to select the strategies that appeal to your organization and best suit your situation.  Once you have undertaken some activities, your organization will be that much more fortified to withstand a crisis.

Unique Features

Every nonprofit organization would be well-served to spend time planning how it will cope with an unexpected crisis.  The crisis management plan for your nonprofit organization will detail how you will deliver your organization's programs despite adverse conditions.  The strategies should encompass events such as man-made disasters, or self-imposed disaster, financial, operational, reputational crisis or the absence of the CEO/executive director, with obvious negative impact.
