In Hong
Kong, ethnic minorities (EMs) contribute to about 5% of our population. Although they have been living here for
decades, they are still experiencing great difficulties in their daily living.
And language barrier and cultural difference are the main impediments for them
to access essential information and appropriate social services.
From gender
perspective, EM women tend to be more submissive to their traditional roles and
have close adherence to the norms of their cultures. Therefore, social workers may find that
engaging and working with EM clients who suffer from domestic violence is not
easy.
In response to the
circumstance, the Council will organize the captioned seminar on 16 January,
2009 (Friday) afternoon to promote the sector’s concern and service
sensitivity on EMs as well as to enhance the skill of workers on handling
related domestic violence and family crisis.
Enclosed please find the program rundown and
enrolment form for your perusal and use. Kindly return the completed form and
cheque payment to our office on or before January 9, 2009. Should you have any queries, please do
not hesitate to contact our Officer (Family and Community), Mr. C.W. Tang at
2876 2466. Thank you for your
attention.
