Objectives:

To provide residential care and facilities
for those who, for health, social and other reasons, are unable to live at
home
- To promote or maintain the health of the elderly person as far as possible, and assist them with their varying personal care needs and daily living activities
-
To meet the social and recreational
needs of the residents and promote interpersonal relationships among residents
in the homes.

Provides residential care, meals and a limited degree of assistance in activities of daily living for elderly persons who are unable to live independently in the community. However, they are not dependent on assistance with personal or nursing care.

Provides residential care, meals, personal care and limited nursing care for the elders who suffer from poor health or physical/mild mental disabilities with deficiency in activities of daily living but mentally suitable for communal living. |

Nursing Home |
Aims to provide residential care to the elders who, as a result of deterioration in their health condition, cannot be adequately cared for in Care-and-Attention Homes and yet do not require the intensive medical and nursing care provided in infirmaries |

Continuum of Care |
The Social Welfare Department has chosen three residential care homes for the elderly to join the pilot project on Continuum of Care. The objective of continuum of care is to enable residential care homes to have the flexibility to use resources to employ staff, hire services and organize therapeutic and training programmes, etc. |

Dementia Unit |
A 3-year pilot project on DUs was launched in April 1999 in 5 subvented residential care homes, which provide specific care, structured training and rehabilitation programmes for demented elders. |

Residential Respite Service |
Provides temporary or short-term residential care service for the elders. It serves the objectives of providing temporary relief to family members or relatives who are the main carers of elders requiring a certain degree of personal care whilst residing in normal environment within the community. |
